Igreja Matriz Arcos
The village of Arcos, situated on a flat
land, Beirão in particular - related to
this region in Portugal. If you go there
in autumn, you can admire a mystic light
late in the afternoon as well as women
loading firewood and roofs gushing out
smoke, oxen carts loaded with chestnut
and walnut sacks on their way to the
village.

The church of our Mother, dedicated to
St. Silvestre, is situated next to the
village. It has a wide and high nave
which goes on to the council, and whose
altar has a rich throne dating back to
the first half of the 18th century.

The Almas Altar on the left nave is
particularly interesting, as well as an
image of St. Miguel and extraordinary
angels, and Seraphs theory on the arches
and columns.
In the Nogueira Square, we can see the
pillory that reminds us of the ancient
village’s privileges. At this parish, we
can also visit the Stº António Chapel
next to the path, the altarpiece being
rather poor and on the floor a grave
flagstone with enigmatic inscriptions.

Nearby
one can see two artistic windows dating
back to the 16th century which certainly
was left over out of an old Manueline
Court, and now inserted in inadequate
houses. And South of that, is a big
niche of Nosso Senhor dos Aflitos.
When archaeological traces are concerned,
there is an interesting Roman Road which
links Arcos to Longa, as well as a press
hollowed out in a rock, that were
probably used to produce olive oil,
situated in the place of Serra.
