Paradela

The village of Paradela is situated on the slope of the Serra de Sendim, has an impressive panoramic view. The Parochial Church, once belonging to the University of Coimbra, has a still millstone certifying it at the extremity of the churchyard. The ceiling has 73 big boxes painted with figures of saints cover the nave.




The chancel possesses a magnificent altarpiece of the second half of the 17th century and a ceiling with 24 four big boxes embellished with floral motives In Paradela, we can still find the prehistoric settlement of St. Mamede, with Hermitage of the same name and a very fragile wall.  

 



 The place is extremely mountainous and very difficult to access. In the place of Eira, there is an important set of rupestral engravings. The old pillory has disappeared. The Pedra do Cavalo is a strange natural monument that can only be indicated by a good guide.
